Doing it Raw

Well, kind of. I attempted my first raw food dish other than a salad yesterday and made raw "spaghetti"! The noodles were pieces of zucchini that I sliced up with my trusty julienne slicer which is becoming the best $5 investment of all time. The sauce was just a bunch of grape tomatoes, minced garlic and a little basil that I threw in the food processor for about a minute.

To tell you the truth I didn't really like it. I put way too much garlic in the sauce and it was just...cold. I don't know if I'll jump on the raw food bandwagon past salads and desserts. My "spaghetti" was just to bland for me :(. But I still ate it because it was good for me! I also made some whole wheat bread, but I think the yeast was past it's time and didn't make the dough rise properly. Lame!

Today I made a little salad to have after my hot vinyasa class (which kicked my ass. It's been a while) and it was pretty good. It's basically romaine lettuce, red peppers, English cucumber, onions, broccoli and red grapes. I made a dressing from olive oil, balsamic vinergar, salt, pepper, spicy brown mustard and a tiny bit of honey.

For some reason I always get balsamic vinegar that seems super duper sweet. I wouldn't have put in the honey if I'd known the vinegar was so freaking sweet. Anywho, at least it was nice to look at.

That's all for now peoples. I'll be back soon with some more food stuffs.

BTW I'm moving into a new apartment with a kitchen about 3 times bigger than the one we have now and a DISHWASHER! So excited I have more than one square foot of counter space!

Lazy Sunday

I did almost nothing today. Actually, I won't say that. I did some reading for my post modern American lit class and started on an assignment sheet project for my teach college composition class. I also did 108 push-ups, two different kinds, standard and tricep! I'm working on moving away from doing push-ups on my knees and towards "real" ones. It's one of the small goal I'm setting for myself. Food-wise today was pretty standard. I had some cereal for breakfast and sort of grazed around at lunch. For dinner Brian and I has a pre-cooked tri tip roast with korean bbq sauce from Trader Joes and I made an asian-y noodle stir fry to go with it. Brian augmented the beef with some Sweet Baby Rays while I used a little Hoisin sauce. I feel much more relaxed now that I'm not pressed to document everything I eat. I much prefer this more laid-back approach to food blogging! It's also given me some inspiration to cook a little more and try new things! I know I'm in a sort of food rut, but I'm trying to break out of it!

Hey so uhhhh, how have you been?

Ok so my intentions for this blog were good, but I epically failed at keeping up with it. School started and totally overwhelmed me so just about everything took a back seat. Maybe documenting everything I eat is a little too ambitious since I'm just too scatter-brained to remember to take pictures, but I would like to keep my food blog alive. Today for instace I have for breakfast: two hard/soft boiled eggs (I can never get just one), two turkey sausage patties and a cup of coffee with coffee mate italian sweet cream creamer. Lunch was a piece of multigrain toast with peanut butter and dinner was chicken fajitas. I just finished my snack, a honeycrisp apple with some almond butter (my new favorite thing). I like to blog, and it keeps me writing which as an mfa creative writing student is something I need to be doing more than I am now! Now that I'm in the swing of things I can start cooking more and getting back to my diet/exercise routine which I desperately need. Thanks a bunch everyone (if anyone reads this) and I'll be back with an update soon!
